ARE YOU SITTING COMFORTABLY ?
You must have read hundreds of news articles, health
advisories and now WhatsApp posts about keeping a correct posture. Most jobs
nowadays require working on your laptop during office hours and even at home.
Too late you realise that the purpose of issuing
laptops is to keep you working 24x7, whether in office or home, train or plane.
They even expect you lug your laptop on well deserved holidays too.
Your posture becomes stooping down to the screen for
long stretches at a time. In no time you start to feel like a pudding. Research
data say that 40% of sick leaves are due to back problems.
Using the gym
provided by the office during lunch hours is futile thinking, as there are
several persons with the same idea. Also doing any exercise after lunch is
strictly no-no.
You decide to join a gym near home, resolving to get
up early. You make a timetable of getting up, gym, return, bath, breakfast and
then to office. The Gym convinces you into grabbing a discount offer on
6-monthly or yearly membership and cons you into paying.
You start this routine, but soon start missing the sincerely
thought out timetable and schedule. The office sends you to client meetings for
which you start at daybreak. Too late you find that you could avail only a
dozen days or so of the 6-month fee you paid. The Gym management (who know that
this is going to happen) obligingly says you can extend the contract by taking
a “break”. You take a sigh of relief, promising to a gym regular. Alas, if
wishes were ….
What to do? Fortunately the internet helps you in
this. Find out and select your own range of simple exercises which can improve
your posture, circulation and relieve stress – all from the comfort of your
chair. There is help for your neck, shoulders and the lower back.
No fancy equipment is required. Learn the exercises
and remember to do them. You can even have your computer flash a discreet sign
every 20 minutes or so which reminds you to do some walking, stretching and
relaxation to sooth your tired eyes and aching arms. This can reduce stress and
have a positive effect on your wellbeing. The idea is to fit the exercises
effortlessly into the working day like a personal trainer.
An office room has spells of quite several times a
day; as soon as the room is quite, take the opportunity to sit back in the
chair, draw up your ribcage, lower your shoulders, rotate and loosen your neck,
stretch your legs, flex your fingers, wiggle your toes.
Heavenly!! The benefits to your back and circulation
far outweigh any feelings of self-consciousness. Do not feel the least bit
embarrassed. Think of the positive advantages you get, to prevent future
problems.
This way you keep fit, save time and all that money on
gym and have no guilt feelings of not doing any exercises. What more could we
want !
