TWIN TOWERS, NOIDA

The Twin Towers of Noida were very much in the news just a few days ago, and their demolition on 28th August 2022 was a whole day affair on all TV news channels.

Twin Towers, Noida

Before and after demolition there were hundreds of citizens, whether at Paan shops, Tea stalls, your acquaintances or netizens on social media from all over India and even abroad who raised questions on the decision of demolition.

Their comments and questioning of demolition were mostly on these lines …

1.     Open a school or Hospital in the building instead of demolishing it.

2.     Allot the rooms of the building to settle slum dwellers, thereby clearing a slum.

3.     Move some government offices into it

4.     What a colossal waste of money if demolished, so use it for something.

5.     So much money has gone into it, so save it.

And so on.

It would be suffice to say that all these commentators did not have the slightest knowledge of the background events that led to the courts order of demolition.

Let us go into the sequence of events as to Why Twin Towers of Noida were demolished  on 28th Aug 2022  by blasting them.

Explained here in sequence …

This is the story of unlimited greed of a builder, corruption of Govt officers and whip of Judiciary.

This news will strengthen your trust in saying that "Paap ka ghada ek din jaroor foot ta hai"

This story started in 2004, when a famous Noida based builder Supertech Ltd was allotted 48,263 sq m land by Noida Authority in Sector 93A, Noida

In 2005, Supertech started to build a residential society ‘Emerald Court’ of 14 towers of G+9 (Ground +9 floors). In 2006 Supertech received some additional land and their area became 54,819.51 sq meters. So Supertech added one more tower and increased 2 floors more.

So it became society of 15 towers of G+11

In 2012, Supertech revised its building plan a third time and declared that they will build 2 more towers of 40 stories on a land that was originally declared green land to those initial flat buyers of 14 towers.

Flat owners objected - "it’s cheating when you sold flat to us you told us that this land will be green area but now you are building two tallest towers of India"

But Supertech didn't listen to them and constructed two towers on that green area other than initially proposed 14 towers of G+11

Residents of ‘Emerald Court’ towers went to court and in 2014 Allahabad high court found those 2 twin towers ‘Ceyane’ and ‘Apex’ to be  illegal and ordered to demolish them.

High Court observations were:

1. Builder built them on green area

2. Didn’t take consent of residents of other 14 towers before changing plan

3. Distance between 2 towers is only 9 meter while as per rules it must be 15 meter (Though no builder follow this rule and you will find most of towers don't even have 1 meter distance in Noida)

Supertech challenged this decision in Supreme Court but lost the case.

Courts also had the structures checked by competent authorities.  Cracks were found in the pillars in the Basement parking, making the whole tower unsafe and of poor construction quality.

Earlier it was scheduled to be demolished on 22nd May but Supertech kept stretching the case, but now finally they were demolished at 2:30 PM 28th Aug 2022

There were news that Supertech lawyers were trying to open court even on Sunday to stop this, but there was no respite for Supertech.

Supertech will face lose of Rs 1000 crore due to this.

Demolition expenses will also be born by Supertech.

All residents of rest 14 towers were asked to vacant area for 1 day.

Traffic was closed on that road for several hours.

Extensive safety precautions were taken.

It was the first such type case in India.

Now we shall seek answers to all the questions raised by public …

Q 1) Why can't this be used for any other purpose?

Ans 1)  Because these two towers were constructed on green land of ‘Emerald Court’ society and it is being demolished on writ of those residents of 14 towers. They demand it. The Courts found their demand legally correct and decided accordingly.

Q 2) And what about the people who have paid for the flats in these two towers?

Ans 2) Court asked Supertech to return money to Flat Buyers of twin towers with 14% interest

This brings us to the point that without knowing the full facts (here – the reason why the Hon Courts passed such a judgment), it may be futile or even meaningless to comment on it.

Meanwhile media reported the demolition according to which ideology they supported.

For example CNN screamed “Implosion of skyscrapers in India forces thousands to flee”, implying that Indians are in crisis. Fact was that elaborate precautions were taken for safety. Buildings around the towers were covered in polythene sheets from top to bottom, of whatever height they were of, to reduce entry of dust in their flats. Garden shrubs and hedges were similarly covered. Hundreds of water spraying vehicles were deployed. All this was visible on TV, so everyone saw it.

Event Managers and Hotels saw it as an opportunity of a lifetime. They organised “Demolition Viewing from close quarters” from their premises, with Lunch & High Tea included in the fare !! Comfortable Viewing Gallery was assured. It is said that people from far & wide booked their seats, came, networked and had a good time, even on an occasion like this !!

Also the Twin towers may not be the tallest building in India I guess. The "42" in Kolkata is said to be 240+ meters tall.
